Commentors Rankings-Jiminy Cricket and FB

As I've said before, you guys as the readers make this blog! The more comments, the better! They posted them on our Week #3 recap post, but Jiminy Cricket and FB dropped some awesome rankings, and I figured they should be displayed for all to see. Check out their rankings! What do you guys think?

FB:
Week 3 Top 25

1. Zachary Kinne, Sr. North Allegheny (7 AAA)
2. Dan McGoey, Jr. North Allegheny (7 AAA)- Took 3rd at Boardman, so far I see the NA duo as being a real threat to go 1-2 at states. We'll get a better idea this weekend at Foundation but right now the top two looks clear cut.

3. Tyler Wirth, Sr. Wallenpaupack (2 AAA)- Despite not having his best day at PTXC, I think it’s hard to not see Wirth as someone who can win the state title. I expect his race against the NA boys this weekend to be very telling for how the state scene will shake out.

4. Jonah Powell, Sr. Grove City (10 AA)- 5th place in a fast Boardman race was a pretty good way for Powell to open his season. Despite some fast early season performances from Josh Lewis, I still have Powell fixed as the top guy in AA.

5. Seth Ketler, Sr. Seneca Valley (7 AAA)- I try not to be too reactionary to what happens in one race. Despite finishing 9th at RWB, Ketler has shown me enough over the last several years to make me think this is just a temporary snag and he'll be back to putting up great performances in the near future.

6. Nate Price, Sr. General McLane (10 AA)- Ran a very fast time at Lock Haven without any great competition. I don't read too much into that time because of how fast the course generally is but still a good way to start a season

7. Andrew Healey, Jr. Holy Cross (2 A)- Ran well to finish as the 3rd PA guy at PTXC. Also ran nearly a minute faster than he did last year on the same course that could be a great sign for things to come.

8. Patrick Anderson, Jr. Mount Lebanon (7 AAA)
9. Christian Fitch, Jr. Fox Chapel Area (7 AAA)- I felt compelled to put these two together seeing as the finished within a second of each other at RWB. Although I think they may not be quite ready to compete for D7 title, I'm excited to watch these two mix it up with the best of the best over the next two years.
10. Josh Lewis, Jr. North East (10 AA)- I feel confident in saying that Lewis has had the hottest start of any runner in the state this year going 3/3 to start the year. This makes me not quite sure where to place him. Seeing him race at Foundation will tell us more about where he will end up in the AA mix.
11. Jack Miller, Sr. Jenkinstown (1 A)- The top returner in A started his season well with a win at Mill Street. Be on the lookout for him and Healey to mix it up at Foundation in what is sure to be an exciting battle.
12. Saw Owori, Sr. Seneca Valley (7 AAA)
13. Christian McComb, Jr. Boyertown (1 AAA)- Very impressive as the top PA finisher at PTXC. Interested to see if he can pull out another big performance at Foundation
14. Ryan Starvaggi, Sr. Harbor Creek (10 AA)
15. Garrett Baublitz, Jr. Juniata (6 AA)
16. Payton Sewall, Sr. Downingtown West (1 AAA)
17. Jonah Hoey, Jr. Bishop Shanahan (1 AAA)
18. Cole Walker, Jr. Unionville (1 AAA)
19. Colton Sands, So. Penn’s Valley Area (6 A)
20. Jeffery Love, Sr. George School (Independent)
21. Chayce Macknair, Sr. Mifflin County (6 AAA)
22. Logan Horst, Sr. Lancaster Mennonite (3 AA)
23. Jack Wisner, Sr. Carlisle (3 AAA)
24. Vincent Twomey, Sr. LaSalle (12 AAA)
25. Alexander Ermold, Sr. Governor Mifflin (3 AAA)

  2. Seems like Lewis, Hoey and Cole Walker is where there is a wide discrepancy in the two ranking? Thoughts?

  3. Thoughts on Foundation Gold race

    1. North Allegheny: they may have won, but only by three points. SV had an excellent race and showed that NA could be vulnerable to an upset. LaSalle becomes state favorite in my eyes now.

    2. Seneca Valley: (see above)

    3. Mnt. Leb: nice run, Anderson is legit, will need to improve time spread but decent outing. NA will still get WPIAL win, but Mt. Lebanon could be more competitive in a smaller field

    4. State College: I was a little cautious about SC, but they were solid across the board. Lot of room for improvement which makes them a great sleeper team come states

5: Great Valley: I don't think people will realize how great of a run this was for GV. They only fielded five runners, had no safety net, 39 second spread, were missing their #2 from Briarwood, and they were still 5th? Really impressive.

    6. OJR: nothing flashy, but in my eyes they solidifed themselves as likely state qualifiers out of D1. ironic that they've been better without conway

    7. Methacton: only 8 points back from OJR. They could also be legitimate contenders to get out of district one. They dropped off a bit after five scorers, but they don't need to do anything crazy at districts if they want to make it states. They just need to stay consistent and get the job done, especially with a wide-open field and an extra state qualifying spot.

  4. Additional thoughts on Foundation (individuals):

AAA: Kinne and McGoey are the clear 1 & 2 in the state. Yes, Anderson was closed to McGoey (and even Kinne) this race, but it looked like neither of the NA boys used more eneeen then they had to in order to secure a 1-2 finish. Anderson is ridiculously fit right now and is only going to get better. He really dug deep and made a huge statement in this race. Wirth and McComb confirmed they will be contending for the a top-5 states finish. The WPIAL guys will have work to do if they want a clean sweep of the top 5 state spots. Owori bounced back and had a great run, as did some of the other guys such a Zach Leachman from Mars and the out-of-stater. Ketler had a better race, but still not what we are used to seeing from him. Is he sick, hurt or what? Just doesn't seem himself right now. Staying along those lines, Wtf happened to Fitch in this one? I mean, 18th!? It looked like he was limping pretty good the majority of the race, not sure if he tweaked something or reaggrivated something? (Maybe held out of that Kiski race last week due to injury?). All in all, the WPIAL really cleaned up this one, placing 7 in the top 10.

AA: ANOTHER huge race from Lewis. Pulled away from the field and cemented himself as the favorite in AA if he hadn't already. Good races out of Powell and Baublitz. They both ran well in a bubble as they pulled away from the rest of the field. The top GS boys ran well in this one, but I still think they aren't near their peak yet. Would have liked to have seen Price be closer to the top 3 but it is what it is and it seems like this is his first hilly course of the year.

A: Great performance by Jack Miller andthe sophmore Colton Sands. Andrew Healy had himself a nice race as well, taking third, and Scott Rutledge performed well taking 4th. Not too much excitement here other than Jack Miller being the clear A favorite for the title, while Colton Sands continues to impress.

  5. I heard Ketler was sick going into the race, but who knows considering this was better than his RWB performance. Hope he gets going again soon. That SV squad is going to need him to get back to where he was if they want a shot at the title this year. As for Fitch, I personally think he was hurt going into the race and if he wasn't before, then he definitely is now. It looked like his knee buckled a bit going down the first Aloha and he had a pretty noticable limp after that.

  6. Week 4 Team Thoughts:

    AAA:
The top three of LaSalle, North Allegheny and Seneca Valley are so close that I couldn't even guess at this point as to who is the favorite. I still think that LaSalle is the favorites due to their experience and depth, but the 2 NA low sticks will make things very difficult on them. I also think that the race being so close yesterday was not due to a weakness in NA, but more of a testament to how good Seneca Valley is. Owori is off to a fantastic start this season, and Ketler is a proven stud. SV has arguably the best 1-3 in the state, plus they have a freshman Peterson as their 4, who will likely only get better.

    1. LaSalle
    2. Seneca Valley
    3. North Allegheny

    4. Downingtown West
Haven't seen their top team in a 5k yet, but I expect them to come out very strong at Carlisle, and could easily also be a top 3 team in the state.
    5. Mount Lebanon
Patrick Anderson is a stud, and will certainly provide a low stick for the Lebo squad, but if this team is going to be mentioned in the same light as the top 4, they must improve their back end depth, but they did show at Hershey that they are not afraid to go after wins, as they were in second place at the halfway point yesterday, don't count out Lebo yet.

    6 through 8 is tough,
I don't know if the course was a full 5k, or if it was all downhill, but the times that Haverford ran at their tri meet this week were really impressive. 7 guys under 17 at a tri meet is pretty unheard of. State College put together another impressive race yesterday, and look to keep on getting better throughout the season. I was also impressed with Great Valley yesterday, as they packed up really well 1-5, and they were missing their number 2 guy as well. GV is setting themselves up very well for districts.
    6- State College
    7. Great Valley
    8. Haverford

    AA:
Grove City was really being slept on in this blog. They were able to pull off a slight yet impressive victory at Foundation yesterday thanks to Powells low stick and really impressive depth. The GS boys also had a big day yesterday with the Brown Binda trio once again putting together a great race. GS still has some work left to do in the back end if they want to win a state title.
    1. Grove City
    2. Greensburg Salem

York Suburban was a bit off the top three, but with 2 freshman in the top 5, this solid team could still make a push to the top of AA
    3. York Suburban
    4. Wyomissing Area
Yet to see them in action, but don't sleep on last years state champs
The district 10 AA race is going to be crazy. It's hard to believe that one of Grove City, North East, and General McClane will not be headed to Hershey. After yesterday it looks like North East has the upper hand on GM. Josh Lewis is obviously a great low stick and the rest of their 5 are solid.
    5. North East
    6. Indiana Area
    7. General McClane

    A:
Yesterday was looking like it was set up to be a great race between the #1 Winchester Thurston and #2 Jenkintown, but it ended up being a huge statement race for Jenkintown. Jenkintown went into this race looking for victory with 4 guys in the top 15 at the halfway point, and they nearly finished with 4 top 15 guys. After NA SV and ML, nobody else had a better race than this A squad, as they were really able to prove themselves on the Hershey hills. This team is the definite A favorites, and looked good enough yesterday to be better than many great AAA teams.
    1. Jenkintown
Winchester Thurston let by Routlege had a solid day yesterday, but have some work to do if they want to win a state title.
    2. Winchester Thurston
    3. Cochranton
Cochranton slightly edges out Wyalusing here, as they have better backend depth, but Wyalusing has a very dangerous top 3 that showed yesterday.
    4. Wyalusing
    5. Montrose
The district 2 powerhouse still in my opinion has more to show, and I could see them climb the A rankings as the season goes on.

  7. Oh my, Seneca has just made things interesting. I had LaSalle as my pre-season pick, then pick NA after the R&W race. Now, things are now muddy. SV has 3 potential medalist and 4/5 are as good as NA. I'm concerned with SV depth though and freshman as their #4. I still think someone will have an off day at states so I'm going with the team with depth. That said, I'm sticking with NA. It will be close
